“The most basic motivation which brought me to build this brand, in addition to my passion for Taiwanese tea, is the profound emotion I feel for this cherished land, Taiwan.” -Le Vert thé
Our brand name is “Le Vert thé”. In French, “le vert” (green) represents the color of green tea leaves and the greenery across the land of Taiwan, while “thé” (tea) is similar to the pronunciation of tea in Taiwanese. In addition to representing the core of our products, the pronunciation of Le “Le Vert thé” is very similar to how one would say “come buy tea” in Taiwanese.
While Taiwanese is a very beautiful, deep language, it is a pity that it’s difficult to convey the full meaning Taiwanese holds in written Chinese characters. It was a true challenge to convey the atmosphere and cultural significance of Taiwanese tea, as well as Taiwan’s down to earth customs and traditions, using Chinese characters at the very start of designing the brand. Although Taiwan’s history is not long, it is very rich and diverse. Traces of various foreign cultures can be found tucked away in every corner of this charming island. The Portuguese exclaimed “Formosa” when they first caught sight of Taiwan, while the plentiful natural resources are why the Japanese referred to Taiwan as an island of treasure. Taiwan’s beauty is apparent in the outstanding population and culture which permeates society. As it was not easy to convey all of this in Chinese characters, we continually experimented with spellings in other languages. During the process, we were surprised to discover that in French, “vert” (green) and “thé” (tea) are pronounced in a manner very similar to our product design concepts so we did not dwell too much on the grammar. Try saying “Le Vert thé” out loud! Doesn’t it sound like “come buy tea” in Taiwanese? It's really familiar!
Taiwanese tea can proudly be considered a crop which embodies Taiwan’s spirit. Countless stories of Taiwan can be told after visiting each tea plantation, touching each tea plant, picking each emerald tea bud, and sipping each mouthful of tea.
These stories are imbued with the gravity of Taiwan’s history, and allow us to experience the wealth of Taiwan's majestic mountains and streams. They embody the Taiwanese spirit of optimism and hospitality while also depicting the pride and simplicity of Taiwanese culture. Of course, the endless innovation and creativity of each Taiwanese generation is evident in these stories. This strong sense of Taiwan’s character is what gives off the most precious tea fragrance as we relish the flavor of Taiwanese tea.
What's the origin of “Le Vert thé”? It's really this beautiful and simple.
